FAQ: Your Privacy & Safety
Q: Can authorities access my period data if they take my phone?
No. Even if your phone is seized or compromised, your period data remains encrypted and unreadable.
Viela uses advanced encryption (including homomorphic encryption) that ensures only you can decrypt your data. We don't store your cycle information in the cloud, and we have no backdoors—not even we can access it.
Even if your phone is:
- Unlocked
- In government hands
- Forensically analyzed
…your data stays protected. Without your password, it's mathematically impossible to read.
In many jurisdictions (like the US), you also have legal protections:
Under the Fifth Amendment, you generally cannot be forced to reveal your password, as it's considered self-incriminating.
Q: How is my data protected?
Your data is encrypted at all times, even during use. Viela uses quantum-resistant, homomorphic encryption, which lets the app work with your data without ever decrypting it. So even if the app is compromised, your data stays private.
Q: Can anyone access my period data without my password?
No. Your data is always encrypted with your password. Not even Viela can read it, only you hold the key.
Q: Why is privacy so important for period tracking?
In some places, reproductive health data can be used against women. Viela is built to protect your privacy, no matter what.
